Holiday in Zanzibar

A holiday in Zanzibar is like reaching paradise; there is so much relaxation and tranquility that fills your senses that I feel I should share more on my Zanzibar travel experience. In this post I’ve gathered some basic information on the exotic travel destination called Zanzibar.

The Zanzibar island has a population of one million inhabitants and is composed of Africans, Indians and Arabs. Throughout its history, especially during the Middle Ages, Arabs and Portuguese fought for control of this island, which has always had a great potential in terms of the spice and ivory trade but, also, the slave trade (until the 19th century, when it was abolished). Then, from 1890 until the proclamation of independence in 1963,  Zanzibar was a British colony.

Today, Zanzibar is known worldwide because of its exotic landscapes, but also because of the cultures of spices (cloves, cinnamon, pepper, nutmeg and vanilla) and the algae extract (from the Indian Ocean) used for the preparation of various cosmetic treatments.

The fauna of the island is very varied, as well – an interesting fact is that here is the only place in the world where the Piliocolobus Kirkii (a unique breed of monkeys) can be found.

Zanzibar is an island where luxury hotels and resorts contrasts with areas inhabited by poor people who still live the old, traditional way of life.

There are so many beautiful places to visit in Tanzania but this heavenly corner is the perfect travel destination for those in search for a memorable Zanzibar honeymoon or Zanzibar holiday.
