Tourist attractions in Zanzibar Tanzania
Zanzibar travel means more than sun bathing and ocean swimming.
If you choose a Zanzibar holiday, you can leave for a few hours the charming local beaches and you can check out some of the Zanzibar tourist attractions.
In this post, I have gathered some interesting places to visit in Zanzibar >
First, you should visit the old Stone Town in Zanzibar, a city where all the buildings are made of coral stone.
The city’s main travel attractions are places with rich historical significance:
1. the mosques, the Hindu temples and Catholic churches,
2. the old slave market,
3. the National History Museum,
4. the Old Fort and the Central Market.
At the National Museum of Zanzibar, tourists can discover the history and evolution of local culture, relics proving the origins of African natives and Arab influences occurred over time.
The Old Fort was built in the 17th century by the Arabs in order to defend the city by the Portuguese. Later it was turned into a prison and then into a warehouse. Today, the Old Fort is an important historic site, hosting artistic performances and surrounded by restaurants and shops.
The Central Market of Stone Town is where the locals exhibit their most precious commodities: spices, exotic fruits, seafood, fish, various handmade products, traditional food and drinks.
Overall, I think a holiday in Zanzibar is a must if you want to experience a cocktail of relaxing emotions: tranquility, exoticism and mysticism.
