The Canary Islands have long been a popular tourist destination. Located off the west coast of Africa they offer spectacular scenery and fantastic beaches. Many people come to these islands to simply escape everyday life and relax but knowing which island to choose can be tricky. In this guide, we review some of the islands and highlight their best bits.

Tenerife

Tenerife is probably one of, if not, these most popular of all the Canary Islands. Holidays to Tenerife are suitable for people of any age and offer great attractions in the form of water parks. Tenerife is also renowned for its nightlife. However if you would like to relax and maybe experience a bit of culture then Tenerife can offer this as well. It has fantastic beaches and historic cities, which are all worth visiting. Towards the south of the island you will find bigger resorts which are more suitable for people with large families. The North part of the island is comparatively quieter and more suited to those after a relaxing break.

Lanzarote

Lanzarote is another popular Canary Island and is great for anyone who is after an activity based holiday. You can try your hand at almost anything whilst you are in Lanzarote, whether it be surfing or hand gliding. Its volcanic landscape provides warm waters and also gives a stunning backdrop to any activity or adventure.

Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria is renowned for its beaches and large sand dunes. There are plenty of water sporting activities to be enjoyed here. Why not visit Playa del Ingles or Puerto Rico beaches – popular attractions with plenty to enjoy.

Fuerteventura

Jandia is a popular resort on Fuerteventura and is located on the south of the island. There are many hotels to choose from in this area and there is a large stretch of coastline nearby as well. If you fancy a bit of retail therapy then this is the place for you.

La Gomera

La Gomera is certainly a place for nature lovers. There are tropical rainforests and a volcano on offer on this island.

El Hierro

El Hierro is also a great island to be explored. You can explore immense pine forests and marvel at the views available from the large cliffs. This is a great place for anyone who enjoys walking and hiking.

La Palma

La Palma offers romance in the form of the Lovers Leap. This is a notable romantic spot, which is located near to the main city of the island. This is known as the beautiful island and certainly lives up to its name.
