If you plan a Europe travel tour, I recommend you take your time to visit Bucharest, the capital of Romania.

I will try to mark on your travel guide to Bucharest some of the most important tourist attraction you can find in this beautiful city.

Bucharest, a cultural tourism destination

Bucharest, the capital of Romania – the largest commercial, industrial and cultural center of the country – was first mentioned in official documents some 550 years ago. The legend says that the city was founded by a shepherd named Bucur on a land covered with dense forests and crossed by a river (Dâmboviţa River).

Today, Bucharest has a fast growing metropolitan area, a population of nearly 2 million people and a rich heritage of museums, theaters, gardens and parks.

Bucharest, also known as The Little Paris

A few decades ago, the city was known as The Little Paris because of its architecture similar to that of the French capital. The narrow streets in the old town center, with small and elegant cafes and restaurants, yet retain the charm of the 1920’s and 1930’s.

There are many tourist attractions in Bucharest that should not be missed: Cişmigiu Gardens, Herăstrău Park, Bucharest Botanical Garden, the Zoo, National Theater Bucharest, Romanian Athenaeum, Palace of the Parliament, National Bank of Romania, Village Museum, Museum of the Romanian Peasant, National Museum of Romanian History, National Museum of Art of Romania and many others.

Tourist attraction in Bucharest: Dimitrie Gusti Village Museum

Those who enjoy cultural and historical exhibitions will be delighted by Dimitrie Gusti Village Museum (also known as the Village Museum). Located in Herastrau, this museum thoroughly reproduces the culture and traditions of Romanian villages.
