Valentine’s Day In Rome

With Valentine’s Day approaching, most of you will probably want to impress your loved one and try to find a perfect location to celebrate.
This year, Valentine’s Day will be on Monday, a very good reason to take advantage of an extended weekend.

Why I Would Recommend Rome To Spend Valentine’s Day

Of all the places visited so far, I think I’d choose Rome for Valentine’s Day. I know many of you will probably say Venice is the ideal destination for a romantic holiday, but for me, Rome is the perfect place: it has an overwhelming number of special and lively places to visit and the cheerful spirit of the locals will give you a good mood; moreover, when I say „Rome” I think of moonlight boat rides on the River Tiber and romantic dinners while listening to the unmistakable sound of an Italian mandolin – in other words, Rome can be the perfect place to fall in love.

Rome In Three Days

A three days vacation will not be enough to discover all the tourist attractions in Rome, but you can choose to visit some of the most renowned symbols of the city.
According to the legend, Rome was founded in 753 B.C. by twin brothers Romulus and Remus. Its most notable development occurred during the Roman Empire, when many of the historical monuments that can be visited today where built.

Colosseum – the first stop on your historical circuit of Rome – is probably the most famous symbol of Italy and its rich historical heritage. It was originally called Flavian Amphitheatre and was completed in 80 A.D. Being the biggest and most complex construction of the time, the Colosseum hosted gladiator combats and wild animals fights and could seat up to 50,000 spectators. After 2,000 years and sever damages caused by several serious earthquakes, the ruins of the Colloseum still impress their visitors with their enormous arches as well as the cellars where wild animals were kept before fights.

Your second stop should be the Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi). The magic of this place is due to its beauty as well as to the legend around its history. It is said that if you throw a coin into this fountain, you will soon return to Rome.
The baroque-style fountain was built by artists such as Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Nicola Salvi and Giuseppe Pannini and features the statues of Neptune (seated in a chariot shaped like a seashell drawn by two horses), Triton and two statues that represent Abundance and Salubrity.
On the left side of Trevi Fountain you will find a smaller fountain, called Small Fountain Of Lovers. And there is a legend for this fountain too: it says that if two lovers drink from this fountain at the same time, they will stay together and always be faithful to their love.

The Sistine Chapel is located in St. Peter’s Square, on the right side of St. Peter’s Basilica. The chapel walls were painted by great artists of the Middle Ages, such as Sandro Botticelli, Domenico Ghirlandaio and Cosimo Rosselli, while the ceiling and the altar wall are the most famous works of Michelangelo Buonarroti. You will love the way the sunlight penetrates through the 12 windows and shines over the bright colors of the frescoes on the walls and ceiling of the chapel.

You can spend the last day of your Valentine’s vacation boating on the River Tiber and walking the narrow streets of Rome or you can visit shopping centers, parks and the beautiful landscaped gardens.
The evening should find you and your loved one in a restaurant, enjoying the delicacies of Italian cuisine along with a bottle of red wine – this will complete your weekend of romance.
