Camping in Venice: Romance with a Twist

The city of Venice is synonymous with romance, and if it’s good enough for the history’s most famous lover, Casanova, it’s good enough for us, right?

Take a gondola ride

What better way to explore the waterways of Venice than in a romantic gondola ride for two? Take in some of the beautiful Baroque and Renaissance buildings as you glide through the water, perhaps being serenaded by your gondolier. Get lost

Italy is famous for its ice cream. In fact, it’s rumoured that ice cream was first brought over to Italy from China by Marco Polo, the famous Venetian explorer. However it came about, the fact is that the Italian’s have mastered the art of ice cream making, and it comes in a variety of fantastic flavours, from pistacchioto (pistachio) to liquirizia (liquorice).

Enjoy live music in St Mark’s Square

Some of the most famous and charming Venetian cafés are to be found in St Mark’s square, and by night, some incredibly talented and enthusiastic musicians play there. St Mark’s square is often considered the heart of Venice, and it really does have a magical feel to it, particularly for lovers. Enjoy a coffee after dinner and soak up the atmosphere with your partner.

Enjoy a long, lazy lunch in Torcello

Catch a waterbus to Torcello island, a quiet and charming island at the northern end of the lagoon. Wander past the basilica church, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and marvel at some of the 11th and 12th century Byzantine work, before enjoying a long, leisurely Italian lunch at one of the little restaurants. If you have time, visit the Ponte del Diavolo or ‘devil’s bridge’– just be careful not to fall in the water!

Star gaze

In countries like Italy, you’ll find that there isn’t as much light pollution as there is in the UK, so on a clear night, the stars can appear particularly bright. If you’re sleeping under canvas, you’ve made a wise choice. Before settling down, why not reach out for the binoculars and sit out for a spot of star-gazing?
